CENSUS (AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE, 1979

An Ordinance further to amend the Census Ordinance, 1959

No. F.17(1)/79-Pub.-The following Ordinance made by the President is hereby published for general information :-

Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Census Ordinance, 1959 (X of 1959), for the purposes hereinafter appearing ;

And whereas the President is satisfied that circumstances exist which render it necessary to take immediate action ;

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the Proclamation of the fifth day of July, 1977, read with the Laws (Continuance in Force) Order, 1977 (C. M. L. A. Order No. 1 of 1977), and in exercise of all powers enabling him in that behalf, the President is pleased to make and promulgate the following Ordinance :-

1. Short title and commencement.-(1) This Ordinance may be called the Census (Amendment) Ordinance, 1979.

(2) It shall come into force at once.

2. Amendment of section 9, Ordinance X of 1959.-In the Census Ordi nance, 1959 (X of 1959), hereinafter referred to as the said Ordinance, in section 9, in subsection (1), after the word "house" occuring for the first time, the brackets, words and comma "(including any commercial, industrial or other premises which are also used for the purpose of residence)" shall be inserted.

3. Amendment of section 13, Ordinance X of 1959.-In the said Ordinance in section 13-

(a) in clause (b), after the word "return" occurring for the second time, the words and commas "or fails to deliver or forward to the proper authority, or retains copies or extracts from, the census returns or any Documents relating to the Census" shall be inserted ;

(b) in clause (e), for the full-stop at the end the comma and word "or" shall be substituted : and

(c) after clause (e) amended as aforesaid, the following new clause shall be added, namely :-

"(f) attempts to have a false return made by a Census Officer."
