As Ordinance further to amend the National Registration Act, 1973

F.No.2(1)/98-Pub dated 6-2-1998.--The following Ordinance made by the President is hereby published for general information:---

Whereas it is expedient further to amend the National Registration Act, 1973 (LVI of 1973), for the purposes hereinafter appearing;

And whereas the National Assembly is not in session and the President is satisfied that the circumstances exist which render it necessary to take immediate action;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 89 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President is pleased to make and promulgate the following Ordinance:--

1. Short title and commencement.-(1) This Ordinance may be called. the National Registration (amendment) Ordinance, 1998.

(2) It shall come into force at once.

**2. Insertion of new section 4A, Act LVI of 1973.-**In the National Registration Act, 1973 (LVI of 1973), after section 4, the following new section shall be inserted namely:-- '

"4A. Registration database.--(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law the Federal Government may establish anti maintain a database to facilitate identification of citizens for registration and for purposes of planning or any other purpose permitted by law.

(2) For purposes of subsection (1) the Federal Government may seek and collate information obtained under the Census Ordinance, 1959 (X of 1959), or any statutory re-enactment thereof, and may also carry put surveys with the assistance of the civil administration or the Armed Forces.

(3) Tile date of any survey under subsection (2) shall be published in the official Gazette twenty-one days before the commencement of a survey.
